Muscat: The Directorate-General of Scouts and Guides has unveiled its local summer programmes for 2024, which include a variety of activities and community partnerships aimed at developing the skills of boys, girls, rovers and rangers.
The directorate is organising the 23rd Summer Camp for Guides and Advanced Guides at the permanent scout camp in Sahl Jabal Ashur in Dhofar Governorate from July 25 to 31. The camp aims to develop the skills of guides in experiencing and discovering nature, through several programmes related to guiding traditions, challenges and adventure, in addition to practicing sports and developing the scientific and social aspects of the participants. The programme includes various workshops such as religious culture, photography, self-development, scientific experiments, reducing plastic and religious values for leaders, in addition to icebreaker games, presentation of the camp programme and distribution of progress cards.
ARAB SCOUTS FORUM
Under the slogan 'Scouting Loyalty in the Land of Giving', the first Arab Scout Forum for Scout and Guide Pioneers will be held in Dhofar Governorate from August 1 to 6, with the participation of 20 pioneers from Arab countries and 60 from the Pioneers Committee in the Sultanate of Oman.
The forum programme includes exploration and adventure trips and visits to some archaeological sites. The forum aims to introduce the role of pioneers of the Scouting and Guiding movement in Oman, activate the role of pioneers by emphasising the concepts of loyalty and belonging to the country and preserve the gains of the renewed Renaissance, and strengthen communication between generations of the Scouting and Guiding movement at the Arab level.
ADVANCED SCOUT STAGE
With the participation of scouts from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the summer scout camp for the advanced scout stage will be held at the permanent scout camp in Sahl Jabal Ashur in Dhofar Governorate from August 8 to 14 under the slogan 'Scouting: Vision, Development and Sustainability'.
The camp aims to instil a love of citizenship in the scouts and acquire many scouting skills that help them develop their physical health, practice various activities that enhance their capabilities in sustainable development and develop their self-reliance, responsibility and service to others.
Under the slogan 'Leadership and Empowerment', the Arab Scout Youth Empowerment Forum will be held at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah from August 2 to 8 in cooperation with the Arab Scout Organisation. Youth from Arab countries under the age of 26 will participate in the forum, where the programme will focus on managing modern projects and reviewing the results and impact of youth participation in the digital transformation youth forum. The forum aims to enhance the role of youth in the field of project management and entrepreneurship, provide them with leadership and organisational skills, promote human values and spread the spirit of tolerance and peace.
WORLD SCOUT CONFERENCE
The Sultanate of Oman will participate in the 43rd World Scout Conference, which will be held in the Arab Republic of Egypt from August 17 to 23. The conference aims to review the policies and standards of the Scouting movement, formulate the general policy of the world organisation and vote on decisions related to the next global scouting goals. The conference is held every three years and is an opportunity for member organisations to review the policies of the Scouting movement and formulate the general policy of the world organisation.
Dr Yaqoob al Nadabi, Director-General of the Directorate-General of Scouts and Guides, said that the camps aim to provide boys and girls with a set of positive attitudes that make them able to provide valuable services to the community, spread the spirit of cooperation and love of work, organise voluntary humanitarian work and raise the level of health awareness among participants.
Al Nadabi stressed that the scout camps provide an educational and recreational environment for the participants, where they learn new skills and explore their interests and talents through the various activities offered in the camp such as sports, workshops, arts, music, field trips and games. These camps aim to bring about a positive change in the behaviour and attitudes of guides and rangers by developing the skills and knowledge necessary for them to play an active and effective role in the guides movement and serve and develop the community.
