Muscat: North al Batinah Municipality on Tuesday seized expired eggs and other foodstuff found unfit for human consumption.

In a statement, the municipality said it took decisive action to protect public health by seizing many expired food products from a local bakery in the wilayat of al Suwaiq.

According to the municipal officials, the bakery was found storing expired eggs in poor condition, posing a serious risk to consumers.

Inspectors also seized expired cheese and food colorings on the premises.

The inspection team said the bakery did not comply with basic food safety standards. The 54 cartons of expired eggs were kept at temperatures that could accelerate spoilage and bacterial growth, making them highly unsafe for consumption.

Recognizing the potential health hazards, the municipality acted swiftly and destroyed the seized items to prevent them from reaching consumers.

This action underscores the municipality’s commitment to ensure that food establishments adhere to stringent safety and hygiene standards.

In response to these violations, legal measures were promptly initiated and the bakery was not only fined but also temporarily closed, the municipality stated.
