NIZWA: The Al Dakhiliyah Governorate is finalising the development of the entrance to the Wilayat of Nizwa, with the project costing more than RO 1.68 million. Spanning a length of 3,500 metres on both sides, the development stretches from Firq bridge to the traffic lights at Firq.
The project, a significant part of the municipal sector's beautification efforts under the governorate development plan, aims to create a healthier environment at the entrance of the wilayat.
Key components of the project include healthy walkways, seating canopies, a sports area, and extensive green spaces. This initiative seeks to enhance the area's aesthetic appeal and provide recreational facilities for residents and visitors alike.
Shaikh Hilal bin Said al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah, said: “The project was assigned to one of the local companies specialising in this field, and it actually began work at the beginning of July of last year. It is hoped that the project will contribute to supporting the growing tourism and economic movement in the governorate and create new spaces for entertainment, practicing sports, and increasing the area of afforestation to increase the aesthetic, economic, and tourism value of the wilayat.” The project includes 23,000 square metres of green spaces, 240 shade trees, and 1,930 shrubs. Pedestrian paths have various lengths and colours of pedestrian paths. Sports and Recreation for bicycles and sports paths, a games area with a rubber floor covering 660 square metres.
Car parking can accommodate 40 vehicles. The area also has a modern-designed fountain.
It has a modern irrigation system utilising treated water from sewage plants for afforestation works.
Residents have welcomed the new recreational spaces and the enhanced beautification of their wilayat, expressing their excitement through community events and social media posts.

In addition to this project, the governorate is actively implementing various development and beautification projects across the nine wilayats of Al Dakhiliyah, including road paving, lighting installation, waste management improvements, public space enhancements, afforestation initiatives, park creation, public health facility supervision, and community education programmes on property preservation.
These projects include paving roads, installing lighting, waste transportation, enhancing public spaces, focusing on afforestation, creating parks, supervising public health facilities, and educating the community on preserving public property.
