MUSCAT: Salalah (A) Club was crowned champion of the seventh edition of the General Chess Clubs Championship, while Masirah (A) Club came in second place and Salalah (B) Club third place. The closing ceremony held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher was attended by Hisham al Sinani, Director- General of Sports Care and Development at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, and Ahmed al Balushi, Chairman of the Oman Chess Committee.


120 players from 24 teams representing 17 clubs from different parts of the Sultanate of Oman participated in the championship. These clubs are Al Shabab, Al Suwaiq, Qurayat, Bausher, Al Seeb, Al Musannah, Al Khabourah, Al Salam, Bahla, Nizwa, Bidiyah, Al Kamil W'al Wafi, and Nakhal. Salalah, Sohar, Al Nahda, and Masirah each participated with two teams.

The championship witnessed exciting competitions and tough confrontations that lasted for hours.


The Oman Chess Committee aims, through the organisation of these competitions, to provide a platform for interaction and gaining more experience, in addition to enhancing the confidence of the national team's technical staff in discovering talented players and ensuring the Sultanate of Oman's representation in upcoming international tournaments.


The committee also looks forward to the participation of Omani players in the Amateur World Championship, which will enhance their capabilities and give them the opportunity to obtain advanced international rankings and titles and contribute to strengthening the Sultanate of Oman's international position in chess.
