SALALAH: The Dhofar Khareef Book Fair 2024 kicked off on Monday in Salalah, promising a vibrant literary experience for the next two weeks. Organised by the Shiraa Al-Janoub Exhibitions Foundation in collaboration with Dhofar Municipality, the event is held under the patronage of Shaikh Tariq bin Khalid al Hinai, Wali of Taqah.
This year's fair boasts a diverse selection of publications, featuring roughly 20 publishing houses and libraries from Oman and abroad. Additionally, around 15 publishing houses and libraries will be represented through agencies, ensuring a comprehensive range of titles.
Salem bin Mohammed al Yafei, Dhofar Khareef Book Fair supervisor, emphasised the fair's significance. He highlighted its perfect timing, coinciding with the tourist-heavy Khareef season, and its potential to foster a love for reading within the community. The fair caters to a wide audience with publications targeting various demographics, and participation from Arab publishers further enriches the selection.
Beyond browsing a vast collection of books, visitors can also partake in a variety of cultural activities. Seminars, workshops, and other events are planned, with participation from the Dhofar Governorate branch of the Writers Association, the Al Jazer Social Development Association, the Omani newspaper Al-Roya, and the Ithraa Cultural Initiative.
Dr Hamdi Mohamed Abdelaziz, representing the Egyptian Academic Center, expressed his enthusiasm. "This is our third time participating in an exhibition here in Oman," he said. "The 12-day event provides a valuable opportunity to connect with readers and showcase our latest publications that contribute to enriching the cultural and intellectual lives of visitors." The Dhofar Khareef Book Fair promises to be a delightful event for book lovers and anyone seeking a cultural immersion in Salalah. With its diverse selection of publications and engaging activities, the fair offers something for everyone.
