Abu Dhabi: Three Bangladeshi nationals have been sentenced to life imprisonment, and 54 others are set to be deported after serving prison terms for their involvement in riots and protests in the UAE, authorities announced on Monday.
The three individuals received life sentences for organizing demonstrations and inciting riots in the UAE in an attempt to pressure their government during recent unrest over job reservations in Bangladesh. Additionally, the court sentenced 53 others to 10 years in prison and one defendant to 11 years for illegally entering the country and participating in the gatherings.
The Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal handed down the verdict, sentencing the expatriates for illegal gathering on July 22. Along with their prison sentences, the court ordered the deportation of these individuals upon completion of their terms and the confiscation of all seized devices.
The group of Bangladeshis had been arrested on Friday for gathering and inciting riots in various streets across the UAE in protest against their home country's government.
