Muscat: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) issued on Sunday a decision No. 1152/2/19/2024-12 amending the regulations and approval list for telecommunications devices.

Aimed at empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the TRA’s recent decision will provide a framework for obtaining permits to import telecommunications devices for commercial purposes, type approval certificates, and customs release permissions from the TRA.

Key amendments include setting the validity period for the type approval certificate at four years, renewable for similar periods. Special procedures for SMEs with an Entrepreneurship Card and a comprehensive review of fees, which may be modified, reduced, or exempted, are also included.

With these amendments, the TRA aims to create a flexible regulatory environment that keeps pace with developments in the telecommunications device market, empowers small and medium enterprises, simplifies procedures, and ensures their effectiveness.

The regulation targets importers and manufacturers of telecommunications devices, both locally and internationally, as well as users and those dealing with them. Detailed information about the regulation can be found on the TRA's website: www.tra.gov.om.
