Muscat: The karate and self-defence course concluded at the Women's Association Hall in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi, held from June 23 to July 16. The course was conducted by trainer Hilal bin Mohammed al Abdali from the Shotokan Karate Centre.
It targeted school students in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi, focusing on enhancing physical fitness by improving strength, flexibility, and endurance. It also aimed at boosting self-confidence, as children learn to trust their abilities and develop self-esteem.
The course emphasised self-control and discipline, with karate relying on rules and discipline, helping children learn self-control and commitment.
The course provided children with the necessary skills for self-defence to protect themselves in dangerous situations. Social interaction was encouraged by promoting interaction with others and forming new friendships. The sport also helps improve concentration and attention span.
Additionally, karate teaches values and ethics, instilling respect, humility, and perseverance. Mental activation is achieved through performing the basic Kata movements (Kihon Kata). These benefits make karate a comprehensive sport that promotes both physical and psychological growth in children.
It is noteworthy that the Women's Association of the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi, in collaboration with the Shotokan Karate Centre, has been organising the course for the second consecutive year for two different batches of school students in the wilayat during the summer vacation period, as part of the association's annual summer programmes.
