Muscat: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has issued a directive for citizens and residents planning to perform Umrah, emphasizing the critical importance of receiving necessary vaccinations. Individuals are required to visit healthcare facilities within their respective governorates to receive specific vaccines before undertaking their journey.
For protection against meningococcal meningitis, a single dose provides immunity for up to five years. Those who have previously been vaccinated and can provide proof are exempt from receiving the vaccine again until five years have passed since their last dose. This measure ensures continuous protection against the disease.
In addition to the meningitis vaccine, pilgrims are strongly advised to receive the seasonal influenza vaccine annually. This vaccination not only guards against flu-related complications but also enhances immunity against various strains of influenza that may be encountered during travel and pilgrimage.
Furthermore, prospective travelers are encouraged to proactively visit local travel medicine clinics before departure. These clinics provide essential vaccinations, preventive medications, and comprehensive health guidance tailored to the specific health requirements of their intended destinations. This preparation is essential to ensure a healthy and safe journey.
To uphold public health standards and minimise the risk of infections among travelers and local populations alike, the MoH underscores the importance of completing vaccinations at least ten days before embarking on their journey. This proactive approach aims to safeguard individual health and promote community well-being during the pilgrimage season.
For further information and guidance regarding vaccination schedules and health precautions, individuals are urged to contact their local healthcare providers or visit official Ministry of Health channels.
