As summer vacation begins, many parents seek enriching programmemes to engage their children, providing a blend of education, entertainment, and personal growth. Summer programmes play a crucial role in developing children's skills and values, offering an environment where learning, fun, and personal development intersect.
These programmes offer children the chance to interact with peers in a relaxed setting, enhancing essential communication and teamwork skills. Through various activities, children learn cooperation, problem-solving, and the ability to build lasting friendships. They are empowered to build confidence through sports, artistic, and scientific activities, allowing them to discover and highlight their talents.
Summer programmes introduce children to alternative educational methods, different from traditional school settings. Workshops in science, the arts, sports, and technology make learning enjoyable and inspiring. Many programmes also focus on instilling moral and patriotic values, emphasizing citizenship, social responsibility, and respect for others through engaging activities.
‘My summer is determination and values’
In Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, the ‘My summer is determination and values’ programme involves 200 children participating in diverse training workshops across various centers, including the Fatima bint al Khattab Summer Center in Al Hamra and the Safiah Umm al Mu'minin Summer Center in Adam. Activities range from recycling art to photography and design using Canva, showcasing the programme's creativity and variety. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Education's mission to extend educational efforts beyond regular school hours.
‘Nutty Scientists’ Nizwa
An Omani company specialising in educational and entertainment services, Nutty Scientists Nizwa offers workshops that often fill up quickly due to limited seats, ensuring focused attention on each child. Director Fatima al Wardi highlighted the high turnout, with over 170 children participating in monthly activities at the center and even more in external events. The center's approach shifts from traditional memorization to hands-on scientific experimentation, enhancing children's understanding of natural phenomena.
Sports training centres in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate
The Department of Culture, Sports, and Youth in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate organises various sports activities as part of the Summer Sports Programme 2024. Eman bint Said bin Ahmed al Daihani from the programme's media committee reported participation statistics: 124 boys and 40 girls in swimming, 27 in equestrian training, and multiple football training centers with participants ranging from 14 to 20 children. Additionally, the girls' physical fitness training center at Al Hamra Club saw 50 participants.
Summer programmes are vital in nurturing children's development and preparing them for future challenges. Support and diversification of activities are essential for the success of these programmes, ensuring they cater to various interests at reasonable prices. Collaboration between different parties is necessary to maintain high-quality programmes.
By reinforcing essential skills and values, summer programmes significantly contribute to a promising future for children. Parents and institutions must actively support and encourage these initiatives to secure a bright and successful path for the next generation.
