Dar es Salaam: Oman's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) signed bilateral air services agreement (BASA) with the United Republic of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.

The agreement was signed by Eng Nayef bin Ali al Abri, Chairman of the CAA, and Prof Makame Mbarawa, Minister of Transport in Tanzania. The ceremony was attended by diplomats and officials from the two countries.

This agreement was an update of an agreement signed by the governments of the two countries in 1982. The updated agreement, based on the principles of open skies between the two countries, provides for the operation of any number of direct flights between the two friendly countries. It also seeks to organise operational and technical aspects in a manner that serves the two countries’ common interests.

The agreement consists of 24 articles and a special annex on the schedule of air routes between the two countries. The articles comprise economic provisions to realise operational cooperation that enables designated airline companies to operate flights for the transport of passengers and freights and enable the two countries to enter into cooperative arrangements and code shares on flights operated by each other’s carriers. — ONA
