MUSCAT: Oman’s shooter Said bin Ali al Khatri, will make his debut at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games later this month in the men’s trap shooting event. Al Khatri is among four confirmed national squad members who will represent the Sultanate of Oman in this prestigious sporting event, including sprinters Ali al Balushi, Mazoon al Alawi, and swimmer Issa al Adawi.

The 39-year-old shooter aims for a strong performance at the Olympic Games despite the expected tough competition. He will compete in the men’s trap shooting event. The trap Qualification on day one will take place on July 29 at Chateauroux Shooting Center, with the final qualification round held on July 30 at the same venue.

“The national shooting team athlete Said al Khatri, accompanied by his coach Luca Marini, is currently in Italy for an overseas camp. The camp began on July 7 and will run until July 18. This camp is part of the shooter’s preparations for the Paris Olympic Games, alongside a series of domestic camps held earlier,” Saud al Abadi, the administrator of the national shooting team, told Oman Observer.

“Since we received the confirmation of his international card invitation to the Olympic Games participation quite late, we could not stay for a longer period at the external preparatory camp. However, we managed to organise one abroad preparatory camp for 11 days under the direct supervision of coach Luca Marini. This participation is very crucial for the shooter Said al Khatri as we are looking for a positive outcome from this attendance at the Olympics such as gaining more experience and competing against world-ranking shooters,” he concluded.

The national shooter Said al Khatri won first place at the Amir Kuwait International Shooting Championship in 2023 in Kuwait. The event featured participation from many shooters representing different countries worldwide.

The official Sultanate of Oman’s delegation to the Paris Olympics will be led by Shaikh Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, OOC Chairman, and Taha al Kishry, OOC Secretary-General, along with some officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and OOC. Oman’s chef-de-mission will be Ali al Busafi, while Amir al Zeidi will accompany the team as a physiotherapist. The OOC will unveil further details on Oman’s participation at the Olympic Games in Paris on Thursday through a press meet at the OOC headquarters.
