MUSCAT, JULY 15

The wholly government-owned Integrated Gas Company SAOC (IGC), currently the sole aggregator and supplier of natural gas to Oman’s ever expanding portfolio of customers, has announced the launch of a dedicated online portal for the handling of all gas requests.

The new ‘Gas Application Portal’, incorporated into the company’s official website (https://www.igcoman.om/), is now online, said IGC in a post on Sunday, July 14, 2024.

“All natural gas requests will now be centrally processed only via the Gas Application Portal,” IGC, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Finance, said. The online facility enables users to, among other things, submit requests for natural gas; manage current requests, receive feedback, and check the status of active applications; and receive and manage related Natural Gas Sale Agreements (NGSAs).

The activation of the digital portal builds on IGC’s role as the ‘Shipper’ of natural gas, a prerogative vested until last year with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals. This is in addition to the company’s broad mandate to manage allocations, assets, rights and obligations as well as purchase, sale, transportation, import, and export of natural gas and its related products.

As the sole Shipper presently, IGC buys gas from an array of gas producers and sells it to as many as 130 consumers distributed across the length and breadth of Oman. Transportation and distribution of the gas is handled by OQ Gas Networks (OQGN), the sole owner and operator of the country’s roughly 4,000 kilometre long National Gas Transportation Network (NGTN).

An estimated 39.4 billion cubic metres (BCM) of gas was supplied to IGC’s diverse customer base, comprising plants for LNG, power generation and water desalination, oil and gas and industrial and commercial (for example, petrochemical, fertiliser, aluminium and steel plants), as well has manufacturing clusters, and other end-users.

All of these volumes were procured from six gas producers: Petroleum Development Oman, BP Oman, Dolphin Energy, Oxy, OQ Exploration & Production (OQ EP) and ARA Petroleum. Together, they fed 39.8 BCM of gas into OQGN’s network that year.
