MUSCAT: The Oman Under-17 football team boys began their training sessions on Saturday marking the second phase of their domestic preparatory camp. The initial camp was held earlier this month and the second phase commenced under the guidance of experienced national coach Anwar al Habsi. This phase will continue until Wednesday in Muscat at the Royal Court Affairs Stadium. Oman U-17 team boys will take on Al Amerat U-19 Club on Tuesday as part of the ongoing camp. The warm up match will serve as a good opportunity for the coaching staff to stand on the player’s performance and will be very crucial to all the young players with valuable match experience and to apply their training instructions in a competitive environment. Playing against Al Amerat Club will provide the team to test their strategies, improve their coordination and identify areas needing improvement.

Furthermore, the match will act as a practical assessment of the team's readiness. The purpose of the current internal camp is to shape the readiness of the players for the forthcoming assignment which is taking part in the 2025 AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers. The Sultanate of Oman team will target for an outstanding show in the qualifiers to book spot int the Asian finals and attend the Asian meet for the 11th time in history.


Oman team will compete against Tajikistan, Guam and the hosts Singapore in Group J for the 2025 AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers. The qualifiers will take place during October 19 to 27 in Singapore. The ten group winners and five best second placed teams will advance to the finals accompanied by the hosts Saudi Arabia during April 3 to 20.

The national team will meet the hosts Singapore in the opener of the qualifiers on October 23 before meeting Guam in a key match on October 25. Then, the national team boys will conclude their group matches with an essential game against Tajikistan who is ranked as the top seed team in the group. During the previous domestic camp, the team focused on enhancing their technical skills and fitness levels. In the current phase, the coaching staff has shifted their focus to the team's physical conditioning, technical abilities and tactical strategies. The players will undergo rigorous physical training to boost their stamina, strength, and overall fitness while also refining their strategic gameplay.
