Muscat: As the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has already announced that the profession of 'refrigerator driver' will be reserved exclusively for Omanis, it reiterated that starting from September 2024, it will intensify its efforts to enforce this decision.
The Ministry emphasised that only Omani nationals will be permitted to drive refrigerated trucks of all types and sizes. This initiative is part of a broader policy aimed at boosting local employment and is expected to significantly reshape the industry.
To ensure compliance with this directive, land transport inspectors from the Ministry will monitor and report any violations. Strict actions will be taken against those who fail to adhere to the new regulations. The Ministry is also encouraging all beneficiaries of direct and indirect services to report any violations they observe.
This decision aligns with the Ministry's authority as outlined in the Transport Law issued by Royal Decree (10/2016), its executive regulations, and Ministerial Decision No. (2022/235) issued by the Ministry of Labour.
