Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) is rolling out several initiatives to enhance job opportunities in the transportation, logistics, communications, and information technology sectors.
These initiatives aim to improve operational governance and establish essential policies as part of the Ministry’s efforts to regulate the labor market and create job opportunities for Omanis, aligning with Oman Vision 2040.
Engineer Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of MTCIT, announced that the Ministry will allocate specific jobs exclusively to Omanis at a 100% rate across various sectors. This will commence in January 2025 and continue until the end of 2027, following the completion of necessary procedures in coordination with the Ministry of Labour.
In a statement to the Oman News Agency, al Maawali mentioned that the Ministry has set annual Omanisation targets as of 2040, with continuous reviews of these percentages to meet the Ministry’s goals. For 2024, the targets are set at 20% Omanisation in the transportation and logistics sector and 31% in the communications and information technology sector.
“The Ministry aims to Omanise professional jobs in these sectors by 2040 through various policies and initiatives. Key policies include limiting certain professions to Omanis, setting minimum employment levels for Omanis concerning sector growth, and overseeing work permits, inspections, professional-level tests, job titles, wage support, training, and qualifications,” he stated.
Al Maawali emphasized that the Omanisation initiative seeks to replace expatriates with qualified Omani cadres in the transport, logistics, communications, and information technology sectors. The initial Omanisation rates for the transport and logistics sector will range between 20% and 50% starting in 2025, with a gradual annual increase until reaching 100%. Targeted jobs include maritime, air, and land transport roles, covering all administrative, specialized, and support positions, based on data analysis.
According to al Maawali, the Omanisation rates in the communications and information technology sector will range between 50% and 100% by 2026.
