Muscat: Adam al Barwani will represent the Sultanate of Oman at the R&A Junior Open in Scotland. Adam is no stranger to international duties having been part of the National Team squads for several years. The 15-year-old is known for his impressive performance in the GOjuniors Tour and Oman’s domestic circuit.
“I am very excited to represent my country at the R&A Junior Open this year, a few years ago the Oman Junior National Team had a training camp in Scotland so I know what to expect of the golf course. The standard of this event will be very high with each country selecting their best under 16 players, I am looking forward to competing against, and learning from, them,” Adam said.
HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais al Said, Chairman of the Oman Golf Association, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Adam. We must thank the R&A for their ongoing support. It is a privilege to be able to send players to compete in such a prestigious event and also to have the opportunity to visit the Open Championship as part of the experience. Adam has shown great dedication as part of the Oman Junior National Team and deservedly earned his place by dominating the GOjuniors Tour domestic tournaments in his age category. We wish him all the best.”
Established in 1994, the R&A Junior Open is played every two years at a golf course close to the Open venue. With the 2024 Open Championship being held from July 18 to 21 at Royal Troon, Scotland, the R&A Junior Open will take place just down the road at Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club from July 15 to 17.
The three-round event is contested by representatives from Golf Federations around the world with each able to select their best under 16 boy and girl to participate. Currently, 71 countries will be represented in the 2024 event.
