Oman athletes impress at Arabian championship

MUSCAT: Oman athletes won four medals, including three gold and one bronze, at the the U-23 Arabian Athletics Championship which was held in Egypt from July 6 to 9. The national team came fourth in the overall tally topped by Morocco with 11 medals including six gold. Hosts Egypt came second with 15 medals including five gold while Algeria came third with seven medals including four gold.


Sprinter Ali al Balushi continued his top show with his second successive gold medal. He finished first in the 200 meter event with an Arab record timing of 20.68 seconds. Tamer Saleh from Lebanon finished second after he clocked 21.01 seconds while Yaqub Alaazme bagged bronze in 21.26 seconds.Al Balushi claimed the gold medal earlier in the 100m event and registered a new personal record in 10.00 seconds.

Ali has now set his sights for making an impressive debut at the 2024 Paris summer Olympic Games with an impressive 49th global rank in 100 m event.


The national youth record-holder, Mubeen Rashid al Kindi, bagged a gold medal in hammer throw after clearing a distance of 67.46 meter with a new national record.


Asian Games bronze medalist Hussain al Farsi delivered a bronze medal to Oman after he came third place in the 800 m event in 1:51:34 minutes while Hiethm Shnetf from Algeria bagged the gold medal in 1:51:61 minutes. El Assal Abderrahman from Morocco claimed silver in 1:51:98 minutes.
