Modern history is replete with examples regarding the empowerment of women in the field of entrepreneurship, but in many developing societies, challenges abound. This represents a major impediment to delivering economic policies aimed at advancing women in the fields of business and entrepreneurship.
Many agencies believe that it is difficult to achieve a more sustainable future in societies, except when both sexes, women and men, enjoy equal rights and opportunities, especially in the work that women can do in societies. This is what prompts governments and civil society to take measures aimed at enhancing women’s empowerment through organizing various programs and creating the necessary training.
In this regard, the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry works to empower women and create job opportunities for them in cooperation with the rest of the institutions that work in the field of women’s employment and the protection of their rights. The process of empowering women means providing them with the ability to make decisions that are important to their future work in order to sustain them, as well as giving them the strength to organize the affairs of their professional lives and making them aware of achieving greater success in their work.
From this standpoint, the OCCI represented by the Women Business Committee, recently organized a dialogue session entitled “Inspiring Experiences in Entrepreneurship,” which aimed to inspire Omani women entrepreneurs to present themselves in the fields of business and share with those present their success stories in business. The aim of the event was to motivate participants to achieve more efforts to reach the goals they seek in private work with quality and mastery, while identifying the challenges facing women’s work in managing their institutions concerned to sustain them in these works and to benefit from the experiences and lessons to move forward in these responsibilities.
This event witnessed the presence of many Omani women interested in establishing small and medium enterprises in the country, which helps women and enables them to market their products.
The OCCI has enabled some female entrepreneurs to participate in trade delegations heading to countries around the world to learn more about the products that can be manufactured locally, in addition to opening areas of the trade with foreign institutions, which helps in enhancing the process of direct import and export of products and expanding business in foreign markets.
The Chairwoman of the Women Business Owners Committee and member of the Board of Directors of the OCCI, Areej bint Mohsen Al Zaabiyah, confirmed that the dialogue session for this activity is important and essential in promoting the culture of entrepreneurship, especially for Omani women who have entered businesses recently, as these sessions provide a broader horizon for learning about entrepreneurship opportunities. Omani women entrepreneurs can also develop their businesses by having others shed light on their inspiring experiences, which helps them benefit from their success stories in those businesses and identify the challenges facing their modern businesses.
The activities carried out by the OCCI aim to achieve the strategy consistent with the “Oman 2040” vision, which works to improve the business environment, empower women in the entrepreneurship sector, and transform their innovative ideas into projects that enhance productivity and quality in the work they do, which enhances economic diversification trends in the country.
