MUSCAT: Shabab Al Miragh team lifted the title of Al Sahbab’s amateur league which is part of the 'Cheer Your Team' which is run by the Oman Football Association (OFA) in coordination with the domestic clubs during the summer.
Shabab Al Miragh's team became the champions after they edged Al Haram's team 1-0 in the final clash on Friday.
The triumph meant Shabab Al Miragh team will advance to represent the club at the Al Batinah South Governorate league level which will begin later this month.
As many as 32 teams took part in the Al Sahbab’s amateur league which started on May 25.
All the participating teams were distributed into eight groups. The league format played with a single round-robin format with the top two teams who collect more points from each group advancing knockout stage which starts from the last 16 rounds.
Both final match sides secured a slot in the concluding game after the winner Shabab Al Miragh team beat Shabab Mislamat 5-3 in a penalties shootout after the regulation time finished in a goalless draw.
Al Haram team booked a spot in the final thanks to their triumph over Shabab Al Hifri by 1-0.
The only goal in the match was scored by Abdullah al Subhi who managed to deliver a crucial victory to his team. Both teams commenced the match strongly. Shabab Al Miragh players were more organsied in the field and posed significant threats to the opponent's side.
Al Haram's goalie, Idris al Yahmadi managed to save all the scoring attempts and have a clean sheet. In the second half, Abdullah al Subhi broke the deadlock as he netted an early goal by header.
Al Haram team worked hard to return back to the game, focusing most of their attempts on crosses from the flanks, but the winners' defence remained solid and well-positioned, clearing all attempts to end the match at 1-0.
The chief guest Ahmed bin Abdullah al Owaisi, Chairman of Al Shabab Club, delivered the awards and medals to the top winners.
Rabee al Oufi, manager of the Shabab Mislamat team, was named as the best manager team while Faisal al Siyabi from the Al Haram team won the Top Scorer award. Zuhair al Hassani from the Al Hudhaib team claimed the Best Player award.
Shabab Al Miragh’s goalie Hussain al Farsi received the Best Goalkeeper award of the tournament.
Al Haram team was awarded silver medals and a cash prize while Shabab al Miragh team players received the shield, gold medals, and cash prize.
