Muscat: Oman national football team players went under fitness training sessions on Thursday in Spain which began on Tuesday and will run until July 24. The coaching staff conducted their first warm up session on Wednesday as Tuesday was designated a rest and recovery day for the players after long travel. The selected squad commenced their preparatory sessions in Asturias region in Spain. All the players took part in the fitness drills in the gym during morning sessions as the coaching staff focused on improving the overall physical strength. The evening training session featured development on certain tactical and technical aspects beside raising the harmony among the team members.

Oman will make their third appearance in the third round of the AFC Asian Qualifiers for the second successive edition as the qualifiers will begin in September. The Red Warriors fans and the sporting figures in the Sultanate of Oman are very optimistic on the draw results of the AFC Asian Qualifiers Road to 26 as the chances are bright for the team in Group B, which includes South Korea, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, and Kuwait. In 2022, Oman narrowly missed out on a spot in the fourth round to Australia.

Oman coach Jaroslav Silhavy and his assistants will ensure that players gain good physique and enhance their techniques in the external camp. These preparations are crucial for the team ahead of the qualifiers against Iraq in Basra city on September 5. Registering a positive result in the opening match will encourage the team to continue on a victory streak in the remaining matches in the qualifiers. The second match is against South Korea in Muscat on September 10 and it will be a crunch game. Later, Red Warriors will face Kuwait on October 10 in Muscat followed by a match with Jordan on October 15 in Amman. Then, the first leg matches will be concluded with a match against Palestine on November 14.

Waleed al Nomani, head of the national teams department at the Oman Football Association (OFA), told AFC website that the teams focus will be entirely on improving the performance and scrutinising all the areas where we are lacking. “ Only when we are satisfied with ourselves will we turn our attention to our rivals. Our mission has become a lot clearer now that we know what exactly awaits us in the months to come. Football is always full of surprises and we can’t predict what’s about to happen. As things stand, I think we have a good enough chance."
