MUSCAT: At the invitation of Huawei, a delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, led by Dr Maryam Bint Balarab al-Nabhaniya, Director-General of Private Universities and Colleges, visited Shenzhen to study advancements in IT, AI, education, innovation, talent management, and capacity building. They learned from China's successful conversion of university campuses into smart, environmentally-friendly, and sustainable spaces. Dr Ali bin Saud Al Bimani, Chairman of the Scientific Committee, and 20 representatives from private higher education institutions as well as government and private sectors in Oman, were also part of the delegation

The delegation visited Huawei's headquarters in Shenzhn and participated in field tours across different departments. They were informed about the company's latest innovations and technical solutions for the education and innovation sector. These solutions involve integrating traditional education with smart education using advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things. These technologies are crucial for enhancing the educational process, improving teaching and learning quality, managing talents effectively, and building capacity. The delegation also learned about the advanced services and solutions aligned with educational institutions' future goals, including the initiative to develop a smart, green, and sustainable campus in collaboration with Huawei and the Ministry.

The delegation also examined how Chinese universities have combined traditional education with smart education in both classrooms and related facilities. During their visit, the delegation took part in the ICT Talent Development Forum held by Shenzhen University of Applied Sciences and Chinese company Huawei. This event showcased successful approaches to nurturing talented individuals in the ICT sector.

During her forum opening speech, Dr Al Nabhani emphasized the significance of forming strategic partnerships and sharing knowledge between the Ministry and private educational institutions in Oman, along with their counterparts in China. This collaboration is further supported by technical sectors like Huawei, aimed at empowering talented individuals to excel both domestically and globally. The initiative aligns with the Sultanate of Oman's government interest, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, in enhancing national capabilities to compete internationally and transition the economy towards a knowledge-based model as outlined in Oman Vision 2040 priorities.
