Muscat, July 4
The Oman national youth handball team to depart for the Egyptian capital Cairo today evening for training camp from July 5 to 11. During the camp, the team will play four friendly matches against the Egyptian youth team, that born in 2008 and 2006.
Following the conclusion of the camp, the team will head directly to Jordan to take part in the 18th Asian Youth Handball Championship, which will be host from July 14 to 25.
Four teams from this tournament will qualify for the World Cup in Poland in 2025. Oman team will begin their journey in the championship by facing the Indian team on July 14, followed by a match against the host Jordanian team on July 15.
This edition of Asian championship will features 13 teams divided into four groups, group A includes Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Hong Kong, while group B includes Kuwait, Iran, and China. Group C consists of Oman national team, Jordan, and India, group D includes Japan, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, and Qatar.
The tournament will be played in a single round-robin format in the first stage, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the second stage of the championship.
National team has continued daily training during the past days within closed internal camp that started on the begging of this month at the main hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bousher. The team played a friendly match against Royal Oman Police, through which the technical staff led by coach Yahya al Mashari and his assistant Hassan al Mamari sought to test all the elements of the team and identify the strengths and weaknesses of the team to address them and find appropriate solutions.
Oman team benefited greatly from this experience, to accustom the players to the atmosphere of the matches and gain experience and friction with the selected list of17 players.
The selected list includes Ahmed al Mashari, Jay al Balushi, Mohammed al Mahrami, Hussein al Balushi, Said al Hassani, Waleed al Balushi, Fahd al Mashari, Zakariya al Qasmi, Al Mamoun al Hassani, Saud al Hassani, Hamad al Hassani, Mazen al Batashi, Mohammed al Hadid, Al Ayham Mohammed al Hassani, Hani al Hashimi, Al Warath al Mandhari, Hamad Bait Subeeh.
The team's technical and administrative staff also includes Anwar al Balushi, team manager, Arif al Balushi, goalkeeper coach, Mohammed Sharif, physiotherapist, and Ahmed al Jassai administrator.
