Muscat: Amid the summer heat, Al Amerat in the Muscat governorate recorded the highest temperature in Oman on Wednesday, reaching 48.9°C. Sur also experienced the same extreme temperature, followed by Zamaim at 48.4°C.

In contrast, the Dhalkut area in the Dhofar governorate saw the lowest temperature at 23.4°C, with Shalim close behind at 24.1°C.

According to data from the weather website Ogimet, which tracks the highest and lowest temperatures worldwide, Al Amerat and Sur registered the highest temperatures globally yesterday, followed by cities in Iran and Algeria.

The Oman Meteorology Office has issued a cautionary alert due to northwesterly winds affecting several governorates, including Al Buraimi, Al Dahira, North and South Al-Sharqiyah, Al Dakhiliya, Al Wusta, and parts of North Al Batinah and Dhofar. These strong winds are expected to significantly reduce horizontal visibility and may cause dust storms in deserts and open areas.

Motorists are advised to drive carefully and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. The Met Office also urged individuals with respiratory conditions to take necessary precautions to avoid exposure to dust.
