MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman took part in the 24th Arab Radio and Television Festival which concluded in Tunisia on Saturday.
The Ministry of Information, represented by the Sultanate of Oman Radio and the Sultanate of Oman Television, in addition to the private media institution Al Wisal", bagged 10 awards.
This year’s Arab festival saw an unprecedented number of entries with 143 works by 28 Arab organizations, including 20 organizations that are members of the Arab Broadcasting Union for the first time.
Oman Radio won 5 advanced positions in the festival’s competitions.
Yousef bin Humaid al Yousfi, Director-General of Oman Radio, said: “These awards that the radio wins annually in various Gulf and Arab competitions reflect the continuous development it witnesses in various aspects of production quality. It also expresses the success made by the Ministry of Information in implementing its comprehensive plans aimed to encourage creativity and innovation and develop the skills of media professionals especially the talented by constantly conducting qualification and training programmes whether in the radio or other media fields.”
The radio drama Battle of Salut won the silver award in the epic drama category competition.
Radio programme Our Health, prepared and presented by Dr Fana al Arimi and directed by Hamad al Wardi won second place in the health programmes competition.
The Sultanate of Oman Radio also won second place in the educational programmes category under the title of school dropout. The programme is presented by Rasha al Balushi and directed by Hamad al Wardi.
The Sultanate of Oman Radio also won two awards in the programme competitions, exchange and joint production programmes. It won second place in the annual radio competition for the year 2024 for the Old Architecture programme and second place in the radio and television exchange competition for the year 2023.
The Sultanate of Oman TV won 4 awards at the Arab Radio and Television Festival namely the Arab Joint Television Production Award for the documentary entitled ‘Holding Breaths’ produced by the Ministry of Information and directed by Issa al Subhi.
In addition, Al Wasal Radio private institution won two awards namely the second prize in the parallel competitions category for the miscellaneous show ‘Al Awal’, and the second prize in the health programmes category for the programme ‘Healthy Life’. — ONA
