MUSCAT: Oman National under-19 football team eyes to win the start against Kuwait when they commence their campaign at the 2024 West Asian Championship in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. The King Fahd Sports City in Riyadh will host the match of the national team again Kuwait, the match will start at 6:00 pm (Oman time).


Oman team head coach, Ahmed al Alawi, will no doubt target for full points in the opening game as this victory will encourage and empower the team’s to show their best in the forthcoming matches at group stage.


Oman were draw in in Group A alongside with the hosts Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Yemen team. While group B comprised Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan and Albania. Syria will compete against Bahrain, UAE and Palestine in group C.


Oman boys were under perfect technical preparations for this tournament as they went through comprehensive preparatory external camps in Iraq and Bahrain. The coaching staff worked hard in doing many improvement in the team in terms of the understanding levels of the players and their fitness levels beside the technical and tactical sides.

The West Asian event will act as essential participation to warm up for the main assignment at AFC U20 Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers which will take place in September in Tajikistan. Oman, Tajikistan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and North Korea are in Group E. The qualifiers will be played during September 21 to 29. The 10 group winners and five best second placed teams will advance to the finals as China will host the tournament during February 6-23, 2025.


Oman will meet Yemen in the second match of West Asian tournament on Thursday before concluding its group matches against the hosts Saudi Arabia on Saturday. The group matches format will be played as one round league system and the topper from each group will advance to the semis. The best second placed team among the three groups will join the group toppers to the semifinal which start on July 3. The finals will be held on July 5.
