Oman celebrates International Seafarers' Day

MUSCAT: Today, June 24, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology celebrates International Seafarers’ Day under the auspices of Dr Mohammed bin Nasser al Zaabi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence.


In addition to the Ministry’s speech, the ceremony includes a review of the achievements in the maritime sector in the Sultanate of Oman in integration with all relevant institutions, in addition to holding an accompanying exhibition for the participating entities, holding dialogue and discussion sessions, reviewing specialised working papers, and honoring the sponsors and distinguished workers in the maritime sector.


This annual celebration comes as an appreciation by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for the active maritime history of the Sultanate of Oman and an affirmation of the glorious role of sailors working in this sector. It also comes from the Ministry’s belief in the vital and important role of maritime affairs and to enhance its vital economic role and stimulate its contribution to the local product, in addition to ensuring the continuation of the employment movement. .


It is worth noting that the International Maritime Organization has approved the annual celebration of World Seafarers’ Day to highlight the desired role of this important sector.
