MUSCAT: Oman spikers' hope was dented by China team to reach the Olympic Games in Paris this summer. Both Oman teams A and B suffered a defeat against China teams. Oman team A comprised from the pair Haitham al Shraiqi and Ahmed al Hosni suffered to a 2-0 loss against China team A comprised from Wu Jiaxin and Walkejiang Mutailipu. Both sets ended for China players at: 21-17 and 21-17.


In the other match, Oman team B pair Hood al Jalboubi and Mazin al Hashmi received a 2-0 defeat against China team B. The first set finished at 21-19 after a thrilling game while the Chinese players sealed their victory in the deciding set after they secured a 30-28 win to move into the next stage of the qualification.

Earlier on last week, Oman qualified for the AVC Continental Cup Finals after beating Thailand at the Asian Volleyball Confederations (AVC) Beach Volleyball Continental Cup Semifinals at Ningbo Banbianshan Beach Volleyball Centre in Ningbo, Xiangshan, China. Hood al Jalboubi and Mazin al Hashmi outclassed Pithak Tipjan and Poravid Taovato by 2-1 in the final clash. The sets ended at 21-18, 18-21 and 11-15. Earlier, Hood and Mazin stunned Kazakhstan’s Aldash and Gurin by 2-0. Both sets ended at 16-21. They also managed to edge Kazakhstan’s second pair Yakovlev and Bogatu by 2-1. The sets finished at 14-21, 21-19 and 10-15 in the thrilling match. Oman’s second pair Haitham al Shraiqi and Ahmed al Hosni suffered a 2-1 loss against Thailand’s Pithak Tipjan and Poravid Taovato. The sets ended at 21-17, 20-22 and 20-18


The beach volleyball competition in the Olympic Games will take place at Champ-de-Mars Park, France, during July 27 to August 10 in the exceptional setting of a temporary outdoor arena with a gross capacity of more than 14,000 seats.
