MUSCAT: The Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC) member, Taher bin Taghlib al Barwani, took part in the General Assembly meeting of the Asian Squash Federation which was held recently in China. The meeting addressed several topics related to the continental development of the Squash. Also, the meeting addressed the upcoming calendar of the Asian squash events and tournaments beside highlighting the opportunities provided for various countries to compete for the honor of hosting these events. The meeting also included the review of initiatives that aim for further development of squash on a continental level.
The representative of ORSC commented on Asian participation, "We were very pleased to attend this important annual meeting of the Asian continent. The meeting included discussions and reviews of various topics including the mechanism for selecting players to participate in future Olympic editions for squash. The participating federation or local committee must be affiliated with the International Squash Federation to compete in the Olympics. Furthermore, officials and representatives from the Asian Squash Federation emphasized the necessity of forming the West Asian Squash Federation, which would manage the competitions and tournaments in this region. This federation could hold regional qualifiers, with the successful teams then advancing to compete at the Asian level." He said
Taher added that "The meeting also addressed the review of certain regulations, including improvements to some points related to umpiring regulations and the review of clauses to align with the global development of the sport. The meeting announced Malaysia's will host the Asian Squash Team Championships for both men and women. Additionally, the latest preparations for upcoming tournaments were discussed, along with future opportunities for hosting and participating in forthcoming Asian events. Al Barwani concluded that the meeting also approved the membership of Kazakhstan and the UAE in the Asian Squash Federation.
