MUSCAT: The Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth has unveiled plans for the launch of a ‘Film City’ project with an investment value of RO 12 million, based on the outcomes of Creative and Cultural Workshops held earlier in March.

According to Nader al Rawahy, a delegate from Oman Vision 2040 Follow-up Unit to the Ministry, the project is expected to provide more than 100 job opportunities for Omanis and aims to produce and export films.

The project is one of the three proposed outcomes of the workshop, which have a total investment value of RO 15.4 million.

The other two projects include a park “Ibda’a Park/Creativity Park” which will aim to attract Omani creators with an investment value of RO 2.2 million, and another project “Yaj” which will aim to boost MICE tourism in the country in collaboration with an Italian firm, valued at RO 1.1 million.

Additionally, officials shared that the workshops identified eight ready-to-launch projects with an investment value of RO 19 million.

Officials shared that those opportunities will be unveiled shortly along with all relevant details, as well as approvals and locations for their implementation.

In a statement to ONA, Eng Aisha bint Mohammed al Saifi, Deputy Head of the National Programme for Investment and Export Development (Nazdahir), stated, “The primary objective behind this initiative is to enable creative industries to stand on its own feet as it represents a promising sector.” Additionally, the deputy head revealed that the programme is currently developing larger-scale projects and investment opportunities within the field.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth published a roadmap that detailed the current status of the creative industries in Oman. Despite having a global value of $985 billion, the local contribution of the creative market remains unknown.
