MUSCAT: Oman national football team climbed one spot to reach 76th spot at Fifa world ranking for June month which announced by Fifa, World football governing body, on Thursday. Red Warriors were placed in 77th position in the last ranking in April but managed to earn 2.95 points to reach into 1326.18 points in June ranking.
The Sultanate of Oman football team managed to register two crucial victories against Malaysia in Muscat and Kula Lumpur beside a draw against Kyrgyzstan in Muscat at the joint preliminary qualification of the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 and FIFA World Cup 2026 during the last two months. Oman confirmed topping the group and progressing into the deciding round of the Asian qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026 after a 1-1 draw in Muscat.
With the FIFA World Rankings released, Oman will head into next week’s AFC Asian Qualifiers - Road to 26 draw in the continent’s fourth-level. Oman came in fourth level for the draw which will take place on June 27 alongside with Bahrain and UAE while Asian heavyweights Japan, Iran and South Korea grouped as the continent’s highest-ranked side. Asian Champions Qatar, Australia and Iraq placed in level two while Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Jordan in level three spot. China, Palestine and Kyrgyzstan in level five while Kuwait clubbed with Indonesia and North Korea in group six level.
Back to the world ranking, no major changes occurred in the latest World ranking for June as top remained unchanged including World Champions Argentina who managed to retain their place at the summit while France reserved their second place and Belgium in third position.
At Asian level, Japan moved up one spot to 17th following their crucial 5-0 wins over Myanmar and Syria in their concluding Preliminary Joint Qualification round earlier this month. Iran remained in 20th spot while South Korea and Australia moved up one spot to 21st and 22nd respectively.
