Salalah: The verdant jewel of Oman, Dhofar Governorate, readies itself for a truly exceptional khareef season, which begins officially on Friday. Anticipation hangs heavy in the air, promising a spectacle of abundant rainfall and invigorating southerly winds. This unique weather phenomenon will usher in a period of ethereal beauty, where the very essence of autumn transforms the landscape with soft drizzles and refreshing showers.

Local climate experts, affiliated with the esteemed Nature of Dhofar team, have meticulously analysed weather patterns, and their predictions paint a picture of an extraordinary khareef. Rainfall is poised to surpass annual averages, while the southerly winds are expected to linger for an extended period. This prolonged dance between wind and rain promises to drape Dhofar in an even more captivating atmosphere for an extended period.

Nature of Dhofar, however, extends a word of caution. The bounty of rain may come with the occasional downpour, particularly in the mountainous regions. They urge motorists to navigate the roads with utmost prudence and adhere to all traffic safety regulations. The wadis, normally tranquil arteries of life, have the potential to transform into raging torrents during this time. Residents are advised to maintain a safe distance from these wadis throughout the khareef season.

The symphony of the khareef extends beyond the pitter-patter of rain. Southerly winds are expected to rise in intensity, potentially bringing forth dramatic displays of nature's raw power in the form of thunderstorms and ethereal sheets of fog. Nature of Dhofar cautions all mariners, especially those navigating smaller vessels, to exercise extreme caution and avoid venturing out to sea during the khareef season.

The government is well aware of the magic that the khareef brings, and comprehensive preparations are underway to ensure a safe and enjoyable season for all. These preparations include the meticulous cleaning of wadis and dams to ensure the unimpeded flow of rainwater. Roads and infrastructure are undergoing thorough rehabilitation to guarantee safe passage for residents and visitors alike. Essential services will be readily available to cater to the needs of both citizens and tourists, ensuring a comfortable and hassle-free experience. Additionally, search and rescue teams will be strategically deployed throughout the governorate to provide prompt assistance in case of any emergencies.
