MUSCAT: The Oman national beach handball team suffered a heavy defeat in their opening match of the Beach Handball World Championship, currently taking place in Pingtan, China, against the Hungarian team by a score of 2-0 (17-12, 16-14).
The first half of the match began with strong competition as nationql team players made a great effort to reach the goal of the Hungarian team. However, the oppenent team showed strength and solidity in defense and attack. The Hungarian team managed to score two consecutive goals in the first few minutes which put additional pressure on Oman team.
The first half witnessed brilliance from the Hungarian national team players, who succeeded in expanding the difference to 12-8 thanks to their organized tactics and speed in implementing counterattacks. Despite Oman's attempts to reduce the difference by scoring some goals, the Hungarian defense was cohesive and difficult to penetrate. The Hungarian team continued its brilliance by adding five new goals and they managed to end the first half leading by 17-12.
Oman's players entered the second half with a strong determination to make up for the loss in the first half, and they quickly showed high fighting spirit and good organization between the lines. The half began with an exchange of attacks between the two teams, with the Hungarian team scoring first to lead 12-10. However, our team did not give up and organized its attacks more effectively, which enabled them to adjust the score to 12-12 thanks to the distinguished performance of the team’s attackers.
The conflict between the two teams continued intensely, with the emergence of our national team's goalkeeper, Hudhayfa al Siyabi, who blocked several chances achieved by the Hungarian national team, which gave a great morale boost to our national team players. Al Siyabi was able to block powerful shots, which kept the match balanced for a while.
As time progressed, the Hungarian national team increased its offensive pressure, taking advantage of the diversity of its attacking methods and the players elaborately exchanging roles. Oman worked hard repeatedly to get back into the game, but the Hungarian defense was alert, and the Hungarian players showed great physical fitness and the ability to control the ball tightly. The second half ended with a score of 16-14 in favor of the Hungarian team, with our team losing the match by two games without a response.
