MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman and other Islamic countries will celebrate the first day of Eid Al Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice today. From the first hours of the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah which marks the first day of Eid Al Adha, pilgrims perform the Eid prayer after which they offer a sacrifice by slaughtering an animal.

Eid Al Adha celebrations in Oman witness a remarkable social gathering and religious feast which starts from the first day of the blessed month of Dhul Hijjah with the early preparations for the Habta, a traditional marketplace where all items required for the Eid celebrations are available and take place in all the governorates and wilayats of Oman prior to Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha.

The festive celebrations are unique in their nature and what they provide in terms of basic needs for the Omani home from various requirements, mixed with the overwhelming joy of children, and the passion of parents as they acquire what beautifies their families and their family environment.

As the Eid approaches, the sounds of the traditional songs of Al Azi and Al Haboot reverberate. The people are accustomed to these songs in most governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
