Summer Sports Programme kicks off on June 23

The official start of the 2024 edition of the highly anticipated Summer Sports Programme will begin after Eid break on June 23.


The most famous summer sporting programme will run in all the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.


The programmes will feature the organising of more than 240 events across 115 training centres distributed across the wilayats of Oman including 77 open sports days, 33 sports caravans, and 19 volunteer initiatives.


The main target of this programme is to provide the best environment for the nation’s youth during their summer vacation and to develop their technical skills in various sports activities throughout the three months of summer break.


Mohammed al Niyadi, a Member of the Summer Sports Programme, said that the Summer Sports Programme is classified as one of the oldest programmes run by the Ministry since 2006.


“We worked very hard to have a variety of sports and activities in the overall programme of the event. Also, the team was very keen to select different places of events including sports complexes, clubs, beaches and public venues across Oman. We would like to thank all our partners represented by the sporting associations, committees, sports clubs, Omani Women’s Associations and civil society teams besides the Culture, Sports and Youth Directorates across Oman,” he added.


Muscat governorate will launch the Summer Sports Programme on June 23 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex as swimming, cycling, fencing and gymnastics sports class sessions will begin under the supervision of the specialists and coaches.


The swimming training programme will be for ages of 6 to 12 years for both genders. There will be 12 sessions for the whole programme an average of two sessions every week. The swimming event will run from June 23 until the end of July. The football event will run from June 24 to July 31 and will target the category of 13-16-year-olds for both genders. Chess activities will start from June 30 to July 23 and will be open for 7 to 16 years old while table tennis activities will take place from July 1 to 24 for the ages of 8 to 16 years old. The badminton programme will kick off on June 30 and will run until August 4 and it will be open for 8-16 years as well as a Squash event.


The open sports days for the public will begin on July 1 at the Al Amerat Club and will host an open day for Karate sports. On July 4, a Racket Sports session will be organised at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex while on July 7 an open day for cycling sports will take place in the same venue. On June 28, the first sports caravan will take place in Qurayat at Bamah beach. This event will target more than 100 participants between 4 pm to 7 pm.
