Oman Under-17 football team was grouped with Tajikistan, Guam and the hosts Singapore in Group J for the 2025 AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers after the draw ceremony at the AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday. The qualifiers will be played from October 19 to 27.The ten group winners and five best second-placed teams will advance to the finals accompanied by the hosts Saudi Arabia during April 3-20, 2025.


Commenting on the draw results, head coach of Oman U17 team, Anwar al Habsi, said that the national team was handed in an equal group.


“Tajikistan are considered as the top team in the group order. It is one of the top developed Asian teams. The national team is moving on a proper preparatory plan ahead of the Asian qualification challenge. The warm-up plan will feature two domestic camps in July and then an abroad camp. Later, the team will take part in the West Asian Championship in August and it will be followed by Arab Football Championship in September. The warm-up period will run in October until the start of the qualifiers," Al Habsi told Oman Observer.


In the other groups result, Iran will compete with Jordan, Syria, Hong Kong, China and North Korea in Group A and Amman city will host the qualifier matches for this group. Afghanistan will target to secure slot in the qualifiers as they will meet Bangladesh, Cambodia (hosts), Philippines and Macau in Group B.


South Korea will be vying for the automatic ticket to the finals as they will take on Korea Republic, China (hosts), Bahrain, Bhutan and Maldives in Group C while Group D comprised from Thailand as hosts, India, Brunei Darussalam and Turkmenistan. Uzbekistan will challenge Iraq, Chinese Taipei (hosts) and Palestine teams in Group E.


Defending champions and four-time winners Japan will meet the hosts Qatar, Mongolia and Nepal in Group F while Group G will feature teams of Australia, Indonesia, Kuwait (hosts) and Northern Mariana Islands.


The hosts Laos will hope to make it into the finals as they will meet Malaysia, United Arab Emirates and Lebanon in Group H. Yemen team is clubbed with Vietnam (hosts), Kyrgyzstan and Myanmar in Group I.
