MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman on Sunday condemned the brutal Israeli attack that targeted the Nuseirat camp in Gaza, which resulted in a massacre that resulted in the death and injury of hundreds of Palestinian civilian victims, a statement from the Foreign Ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry affirmed that the continued commission of systematic war crimes against the Palestinian people is a clear and explicit violation of international conventions and international humanitarian law, which requires urgent intervention by the international community to put an end to these crimes against humanity, protect civilians, and hold the Israeli occupying state responsible for its actions.
On Sunday, Israeli forces pounded central Gaza anew, a day after killing 274 Palestinians during a hostage rescue raid, and tanks advanced into further areas of Rafah in an apparent bid to seal off part of the southern city, residents and Hamas media said.
Palestinians remained in shock over Saturday's death toll, the worst over a 24-hour period of the Gaza war for months and including many women and children, Palestinian medics said.
In an update on Sunday, Gaza's health ministry said 274 Palestinians were killed —up from 210 it reported on Saturday —and 698 were injured when Israeli special force commandos stormed into the densely populated Al Nuseirat camp to rescue four hostages held since October by Hamas militants.
Sixty-four of the dead were children and 57 were women, the Hamas-run Gaza government media office said on Sunday.
COLONISTS STORM AL AQSA
Colonists stormed the courtyards of the blessed Al Aqsa Mosque in the occupied city of Jerusalem on Sunday, under the protection of the Israeli occupation police.
Eyewitnesses said that the colonists stormed Al Aqsa in groups from the Mughrabi Gate, carried out provocative tours, and performed Talmudic rituals in its courtyards, Palestinian news agency (WAFA) reported.
The occupation police also tightened their military measures at the gates of the Old City and Al Aqsa Mosque.
The pace of colonists' and extremists' incursions into Al Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem has increased significantly since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on 7 October 2023.
