Muscat: Temperature displayed on vehicles can be inaccurate as their measuring methods are not on par with international standards adopted by the World Meteorological Organization, said a top official of Oman Meteorology.

Vehicle temperature can be affected by the heat emitted from the engine, the ground, or the road, according to Aisha bint Juma al Qasimiyah, a meteorologist, who also denied

reports circulating among the public that the temperature has already exceeded 50 degrees Celsius, depending on the measuring sensors on vehicles or manual devices.

At the same time, she warned that temperatures may go up to 50 degrees Celsius this summer

Meanwhile, the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) said that summer normally witnesses an increased rate of vehicle fire, resulting in human and material losses, Vehicle fire can be avoided through a bit of care, proper maintenance, and the replacement of worn-out parts with new ones, especially engine parts.

Reasons for vehicle fires include oil leaks from the tank or pipes, increased pressure on the tires due to overloading, reduced air pressure, ignoring the safety instructions, and fittings that are counterfeited or below standards.
