Oman’s electricity production increases 7% in Q1 2024

MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman has recorded an increase in total electricity production with output rising to 8,152.3 gigawatts per hour by end of Q1 2024. This is a 7 per cent increase compared to 7,619.6 gigawatts per hour during the same period in 2023, according to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).


The combined electricity production in North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Al Dhahirah governorates reached 5,049.8 gigawatts per hour. Muscat Governorate saw the biggest increase in production by 30.9 per cent to 29.8 gigawatts per hour. Dhofar Governorate experienced a 17.2 per cent increase, totaling 1,103.7 gigawatts per hour.


The governorates of North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah also reported a rise of 15.3 per cent, achieving 1,853.6 gigawatts per hour. Meanwhile, Al Wusta Governorate experienced a significant decrease in production by 52.4 per cent to 29.5 gigawatts per hour. Musandam Governorate, on the other hand, saw a 7.2 per cent increase in production.

Meanwhile, the total amount of water produced in Oman decreases to about 122.1 million cubic metres by the end of March 2024, compared to 122.136 million cubic meters in the same period in 2023. — ONA
