MUSCAT: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth announced the 2024 Summer Sports Programme on Tuesday at the Grand Hormuz Hotel. The event was attended by Mohammed bin Ahmed al Ameri, Director-General of Sports Activities at the Ministry, members of the main committee for the Summer Sports Programme, and several ministry officials and the programme-supporting companies.

The Summer Sports Programme, initiated by the Ministry in 2006, aims to fill summer leisure time with beneficial sports activities that enhance participants' skills and build their character, helping them become active contributors to community development. This year’s programme will feature 244 activities, including 115 training centres, 77 open sports days, 33 sports caravans and 19 initiatives and volunteer workshops. These activities will take place in various sports complexes across Oman, as well as in sports clubs, Omani women’s associations and local teams.

The 2024 Summer Sports Programme introduces new and innovative ideas to engage participants during their summer holidays. Samira al Shukaili, Director of the Sports Activity Department at the Ministry and Chair of the Main Committee for the 2024 Summer Sports Programme, stated that the programme aims to have a significant social impact by protecting against modern diseases, promoting a positive lifestyle, improving mental and social health, and guiding behaviour through its vision of quality and excellence in promoting sports for all.

Al Shukaili added that the programme’s mission is to prepare a generation knowledgeable in sports and aware of the importance of sports in instilling healthy and social values.
