MUSCAT: As mercury levels hit a peak recording about 49.4 degrees C, few places in the Sultanate of Oman touched 49 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
Some of the places are Al Hamra and Duru with 49.4 and Sunayna recording 48.9 degrees Celsius.
Oman Met Office meteorologist, Mohammed al Madhani from National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre said in the next few days there might be a slight relief from the high temperatures as other places had also recorded mid forties and above.
“This is mainly because of the thermal low over the Empty Quarters and parts of Oman that generate dry wind coming from the west of the most of the governorates because of this we experience high temperature, dry air and bright sunny days,” said Al Madhani.
Some of the schools have opted for online classes looking during the current situation.
