As temperatures rise during the summer, the risk of damage to electronic devices, including internet modems, increases. High temperatures can slow down internet speed, cause disconnections, and even permanently damage the modem.

At a time when users increasingly need a stable and fast connection, especially with the heavy reliance on the internet for remote work, study, and entertainment, they must adhere to steps to maintain device efficiency.

Ahmed al Ajmi, from Ooredoo, provided valuable tips to protect modems from the summer heat and maintain connection speed and stability. Al Ajmi explained that keeping the modem away from direct sunlight and other heat sources is an essential step. He pointed to the importance of placing the modem in a high place away from the ground and out of reach of children, where the air is cooler. In addition, placing the modem in a high place helps distribute the internet better throughout the home. Al Ajmi added that it is important to make sure that there is enough space around the modem to ensure airflow, and not to cover the ventilation holes on the modem because they are necessary for airflow.

On the other hand, Al Ajmi stressed the need to avoid turning the modem on and off repeatedly, as it is preferable to do so no more than once a day, as this can affect the device and speed.

In the same context, Alaa Al Maawali of Omantel indicated that it is preferable to place the modem in a place where it reaches moderate temperatures, and avoid placing it on wood or fabric. Al Maawali explained that the company often receives calls from subscribers during the summer who are suffering from interruptions in their home internet, and when looking into the problem, we find that the modem's temperature has reached more than 42 degrees Celsius due to exposure to direct sunlight or being placed in a place where it does not reach moderate coolness.

Al Maawali added that the company advises customers to turn off the modem for 20 minutes to lower its temperature, and then restart it to operate normally, which allows them to benefit from the required speed, as the high temperature of the modem leads to a slight decrease in internet speed.
