Comex 2024 sees over 80,000 visitors, deals worth RO85 million

Muscat: Over 80,000 people visited the Comex 2024, which was held last week for four days.


According to the Ministry of Transport and Communicaitons and Information Technology (MTCIT), investments and deals signed during the event was worth over RO85 million ($220 million), an increase of 112 percent from 20.


Around 60 deals were signed during the event, which also saw the participation of 350 establishments including 33 government entities.


The number of companies that took part in the event went up by 53 percent to 184 this year while the number of startups went up by by 39 percent to 133.


In his statmenet, Engineer Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali - Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology at the conclusion of the Digital Transformation Forum, said, “It is essential that leaders have a comprehensive strategic vision for digital transformation that encourages innovation and the adoption of modern technologies to ensure that they make the most of this transformation.”


Dr Ali Amer al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology, said that the National Programme for Digital Economy seeks to raise the digital economy’s contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) from 2 percent now to 10 percent by 2040.


Al Shidhani pointed out that the volume of investments in the communications and information technology sector since the announcement of the National Program for the Digital Economy stood at more than RO 1 billion ($2.5 billion).
