The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) took part in the 36th meeting of the heads of the GCC Olympic Committees in Doha on Wednesday.


The OOC was represented by its chairman Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, Taha bin Sulaiman al Kushari, Secretary-General, Lujaina bint Mohsen al Zaabiyah, member of the OOC Board, and Dr Mansour bin Sultan Al Touqi, member of the Boad.


During the meeting, they reviewed the recommendations of the executive office and general secretariat on developing sports in GCC. They also discussed steps to enhance the capabilities of the GCC Olympic Committee.


The GCC panel will organise 43 sports events this yea. The general secretariat has been asked to provide the timetable for 2025, which includes training courses, conferences and workshops.


The formation of the Planning, Coordination and Follow-up Committee was approved, and it consists of candidates from GCC countries with experience and competence in the sports field. The tasks and responsibilities of the committee were also approved. The Executive Office will follow up, supervise and approve the results of the outputs of the committees.

They reviewed the executive office recommendation on international cooperation and partnerships with international organizations.


Recommendation of the Executive Office regarding the results of the working group on regulation of Gulf Sports Games was reviewed. The committee approved the change of organisational norms to GCC Games and Regulations.


The committee thanked the UAE for its successful hosting of the first GCC Youth Games, which was held from April 16 to May 2.


All members approved the request of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee to cancel the first edition of the indoor Gulf Games, which was scheduled to be held at the end this year, due to the busy schedule of regional and international sports events.
