Muscat: The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) launched two new services, namely, a video calling service and marriage contract card service, as part of its participation in COMEX 2024. The video communication service allows citizens and residents to communicate with courts and judges remotely, thereby making it easier and convenient for litigants to follow up on their court matters. The initiative is particularly beneficial for those faced with mobility issues as well as other challenges.
Equally significant is the marriage contract cards service, which is considered a qualitative leap in facilitating the documentation and issuance of marriage contracts in a digital and secure manner. These smart cards allow couples to document their contracts quickly and efficiently, with the ability to save them electronically, which contributes to protecting data and making it easy to access when needed. This initiative comes within the Council’s efforts to simplify administrative procedures and promote comprehensive digital transformation in line with Oman Vision 2040.
Mohammed bin Ali al Shuaibi, Director of the Electronic Tawtheeq Project, indicated that the video communication service enables people to complete transactions remotely. The person can engage with the notary public from anywhere via video communication, and complete the transaction. Al Shuaibi said the initiative is still in the experimental phase, and will be launched within the next two months.
The marriage contract cards service is an important step towards simplifying and facilitating the official procedures related to marriages. It allows individuals to go to self-service machines, which will be installed in the court complexes immediately after the end of the COMEX exhibition. Applicants can use these machines to extract marriage contracts quickly and easily. Al Shuaibi pointed out that the self-service machines will be equipped with modern technologies to ensure data security and speedy action.
Al Shuaibi explained that the new marriage contract includes two cards, one for the man and the other for the woman. To obtain contract cards, the contracts must be authenticated by a notary public, and after authentication, they can go to the self-service machines to obtain the cards. Al Shuaibi stressed that contracts must be issued through the new system using the electronic notary platform “Tawtheeq.” Al Shuaibi added that old contracts are currently subject to data processing, and the mechanism for extracting these contracts will be clarified later. Currently, the service includes new contracts that have been issued since last January. This service is currently available to Omanis only, with plans to include residents of the Sultanate of Oman at a later date.
