Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tarik al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports, and Youth, graced the inaugural ceremony of the COMEX 2024 Technology Exhibition on Monday. The event, held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC), will continue until May 30.

The opening ceremony featured the signing of several agreements worth RO 60 million. These agreements focus on digital transformation, the development of technical infrastructure, and Investment Authority projects to support the digital economy and digital investments.

On the sidelines of the event, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology noted that the total digital investments in Oman amounted to approximately $2.5 billion in 2023.

“The Ministry is working on projects that will be launched soon, including 'The Omani Linguistic Model,' 'The Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in cooperation with the World Economic Forum,' 'The Unified National Portal for Government Services,' and 'The Special Technology Zone for Startups,'” he added.

He also mentioned that the agreements and projects announced at COMEX 2024 have an estimated value 60% higher than those announced at COMEX 2023, exceeding RO 40 million.

Additionally, the Undersecretary highlighted that the National Programme for the Digital Economy aims to increase the digital economy's contribution to GDP from 2% to 10% by 2040. This goal will be achieved through growth in eight executive programmes: digital industry, digital transformation, space, artificial intelligence, advanced technologies, e-commerce, technology, cybersecurity industry, and technical infrastructure.
