Sohar University recently hosted a ‘Business Partners’ Gathering’, bringing together around 38 government and private institutions. The event, held under the auspices of Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of Al Batinah North, aimed to boost research, training and industrial partnerships, while facilitating the exchange of institutional experiences across the country.
The highlight of the gathering was a dialogue session entitled ‘From Education to Learning,’ led by Mustafa al Lawati, Manager of Community Engagement and Partnership at Sohar University. Key participants included Badr al Jahwari, Superintendent of Professional and Organisational Development at Sohar Aluminium Company, Ahmed al Hajri, General Manager of the General Directorate of Labour in Al Batinah North Governorate, and Professor Hussein Kazim, lecturer at Sohar University.
The session delved into the critical role of education in sustainable development, emphasising the collaboration between higher education, industrial and government institutions to drive national progress. Discussions also covered the skills and capabilities needed in the workforce and the potential for higher education institutions to foster entrepreneurship and innovation.
Dr Hamdan bin Sulaiman al Fazari, Vice-Chancellor of Sohar University, highlighted the institution's achievements, faculties, academic offerings and innovative teaching and learning strategies. He also discussed the accomplishments of staff and students in areas such as innovation, community service, industrial collaboration and scientific research. Dr Al Fazari emphasised the opportunities for collaboration between the university, government, business and society.
The gathering also saw the signing of cooperation agreements in training, research and innovation.
