MUSCAT: The inflation rate in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 0.4% in April 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, according to data from the consumer price index released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The data indicated a rise in the prices of various personal goods and services by 4.2%, food and non-alcoholic beverages by 2.8%, tobacco by 2.4%, culture and entertainment by 0.4%, restaurants and hotels by 0.3%, and clothing and footwear by 0.2%.
Conversely, the prices of transportation decreased by 3%, education by 0.4%, furniture, household equipment, and routine household maintenance by 0.2%, and communications by 0.2%, while prices for other groups remained stable.
Within the food and non-alcoholic beverages group, the prices of vegetables increased by 12.1%, fruits by 4.2%, milk, cheese, and eggs by 3.7%, oils and fats by 2.7%, meat by 1.9%, sugar, jam, honey, and sweets by 1.4%, and bread and cereals by 1%, while fish prices decreased by 2.4%.
North Al Sharqiyah Governorate recorded the highest inflation rate by the end of April 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, with the index rising by 1.4%, followed by Al Wusta Governorate at 1.3%, and Dhofar Governorate at 1.1%.
The rate increased by 1% in Musandam Governorate, 0.9% in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, 0.7% in Al Buraimi and North Al Batinah Governorates, 0.6% in Al Dhahirah Governorate, and 0.2% in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, while the rate remained stable in Muscat Governorate. — ONA
