Muscat: The Oman under-19 football team will be back in action on a short domestic gathering on Sunday in Muscat ahead of leaving to Iraq on Thursday to set up an overseas camp which will continue until June 6 as part of the team’s arrangements for the forthcoming assignments.
During the camp in Iraq, the national junior team will play two friendly matches against the hosts Iraq on June 2 and 5. The coaching staff, led by national coach Ahmed al Alawi, target an increase in cohesiveness and better harmony among the players and reaching to the highest levels of readiness ahead of the forthcoming events including: West Asian Championship which will be held in Saudi Arabia in August. Then, the team will take part in the AFC U20 Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers in September, while the finals of 2025 AFC U20 Asian Cup is scheduled to take place in February 2025.
In the upcoming short domestic and abroad camps, the coaching staff will continue to focus on all the technical, tactical, physical and mental levels with the aim of refining the individual and collective skills of the team members besides implementing some attacking practices.
As many as 24 players were opted by coach Ahmed al Alawi including Suhaib al Kharousi who is playing in Genoa CFC Under-18 team. The selection of Suhaib was based to his impressive performance in Italian Under-18 league and he is the captain of the team.
The team had concluded in beginning of May an aboard camp in Manama city in Bahrain which run for five days. During the camp in Manama city, the national team played two friendly games against Bahrain. Bahrain won the first match 2-0 while the following game finished in a goalless draw.
Ahead of Bahrain camp, the Oman team went to Kuwait in March for another camp. During the camp in Kuwait, the Oman junior team had played two games against the hosts. Oman won the first match 3-1 and the second match 1-0. The junior Red Warriors goals were netted in the opening match by Masoud al Bahri, Fahad al Mukhaini and Al Hussain al Qasmi, while Abdullah Faris scored for Kuwait. Al Qasmi scored the only goal in the second match.
