Oman has expressed its sympathy with the Islamic Republic of Iran, which lost its leader Dr Ebrahim Raisi who was killed in a helicopter crash in mountainous terrain near the Azerbaijan border.

The wreckage of the helicopter which crashed on Sunday also had Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and six other passengers and crew. The loss of both Dr Raisi and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian is sad news for Oman.

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and the people of Oman received the news of the death of Dr Ebrahim Raisi and the delegation that accompanied him in a helicopter crash with grief over the immense loss.

In Oman’s perspective, the late president was renowned for his benign contributions and sincere efforts to realise understanding and maintain peace and harmony during his presidential term.

Building on the longstanding and robust relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran and their friendly peoples, and emphasising mutual respect between the leaders of the two countries and the solid bilateral relations founded on good neighbourliness, fraternity, and religious and cultural ties, His Majesty paid an official visit to Iran in response to a gracious invitation from Dr Ebrahim Raisi.

His Majesty the Sultan values what Dr Raisi and his government have been doing in adopting a constructive, effective and broad policy based on the principles of Iranian policy and openness with all countries, especially neighbouring countries.

Dr Raisi has been at the forefront of leading the country to positive and constructive Oman-Iran relations based on mutual respect, cooperation and good neighbourliness. The development of common economic, commercial and cultural interests under Dr Raisi contributed to strengthening regional security and stability.

Another big loss for Oman is the death of Hossein Amir-Abdollahian who has visited Oman several times for consultations at the highest level regarding important positions on the region and the world.

His recent meeting with Sayyid Badr Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, underscored the two countries’ keenness to enhance cooperation based on the principles of good neighbourliness, while reiterating their continuing efforts to address and find peaceful solutions to issues and developments in the region.

Their meetings have been representing an opportunity to exchange views, consult and coordinate regarding various developments taking place in the region with the recent one also representing a chance to know how to work together in the tireless attempts to find successful solutions to various issues and conflicts.

In one of his visits to Oman, late Hossein Amir-Abdollahian expressed his appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for the initiative that was launched to lift the sanctions imposed by the United States of America and the efforts of Oman to support stability in the region.

He noted that the bilateral relations between Oman and Iran have been witnessing development in all fields and that Iran holds consultations with Oman at the highest level regarding taking important positions on the region and the world.

As one of the ways to solidify relations between the two brotherly countries and establish foundations for maintaining them, the leaders of the two countries earlier directed their governments to work towards reaching a strategic cooperation document between the countries and to sign it in various fields that enhance common cooperation and mutual benefits.
